With over 70% of the world's housing built using timber frames the use of modern methods of construction is the practical answer to shortages of skilled site labour, increasingly stringent thermal and acoustic requirements, sustainability and demands for faster build times.

Four of the Westcountry's main developing landlords have pioneered this approach by forming a limited liability partnership called AdvantageSW.  The Partnership has designed an extensive range of factory built standards house types both for their own use and for other social housing providers who can reap the cost and time saving benefits of a truly of -the-shelf portfolio of products.

Each floor plan design is currently subject to accreditation by the housing Corporation and has achieved:

• end-user approval via a rigorous tenant 'liveability audit';

• thermal, acoustic, structural, fire resistance and air leakage standards in excess of current requirements;

• minimum lifetime durability of 60 years.

Randall and Simmonds negotiated the contracts, advised on value engineering and assisted in all aspects of the establishment of the Consortium.
