Modern Methods of Construction

Lead Consultant

In 2006 we were employed to lead the design and selection of preferred superstructure construction methods for the Advantage South West consortium of RSL, this includes reviewing all alternative construction methods including open panel timber frame; close panel timber frame; pod construction; steel frame panels and fully completed modular systems

Following selection of the preferred approach, a closed panel timber system, we led a Design Panel to agree the design requirements, before production was progressed.  The Panel we chaired also reviewed standard designs to adopt all Code & Housing Corporation requirements, with a Mechanical Engineer appointed to review alternative heating options against construction costs, running costs and life cycle costs.

The preferred system was targeted at 500 units per year, rising to 1,000 units per year.  Following this successful first stage, ASW have progressed as a procurement organisation to create a joint supply chain for further elements, such as kitchens, bathrooms etc.
